RENEWABLE SOLUTIONS FOR ISTANBUL FOR A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT

It produced approximately 2 million 500 thousand kilowatt-hours of electricity from 5 different solar power plants established by Istanbul Energy Inc. in 2018. Thus, it contributed approximately 1 million 200 thousand TL to the national economy. Work is underway to establish 6 new power plants to increase electricity production from renewable energy sources.

to reduce Turkey’s dependence on foreign energy, electricity production from renewable energy sources to contribute to the closure of the current account deficit is of great importance. Acting with this understanding, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality increases its investments in renewable resources with its smart urbanization vision. It produced approximately 2 million 500 thousand kilowatt hours of electricity from solar energy in the last year. Thus, it contributed to the environment and the economy by earning TL 1 million 200 thousand to the national economy.

CONTRIBUTION TO BOTH ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT

Electricity is produced from 5 different solar power plants established by İstanbul Enerji AŞ. Turkey’s first floating solar plant Büyükçekmece Lake Floating Solar Power Plant which is about 2 thousand 900 square meters with 240 kilowatts of installed capacity of electricity generation is doing since 2017. The facility, which prevents evaporation thanks to its location on the lake, produces production equivalent to the daily energy needs of 202 households. With this production amount obtained from the sun, it contributes to the environment by emitting 164 tons less carbon per year. In more concrete terms, this value provides the benefit of attracting 135 vehicles from traffic or the contribution of 4,200 trees to the environment annually.

ISTANBUL’S LARGEST POWER PLANT

Launched in 2018, İSKİ İkitelli Drinking Water Treatment Plant Solar Power Plant bears the title of being the largest solar power plant in Istanbul. It serves on an area of ​​15 thousand square meters with an installed power of 1,200 kilowatts. It has the power to meet the annual electricity needs of a total of 10 thousand households and prevents 820 tons of carbon emission annually, providing environmental benefits equivalent to 675 vehicles being withdrawn from traffic and planting 21 thousand 24 trees.

IT IS USED FOR THE NEED OF ROOF PRODUCED ELECTRICAL SPORTS HALL

Hidayet Türkoğlu Sports Complex Rooftop Solar Power Plant has been operating since 2016. The plant, which has an area of ​​approximately one thousand square meters, serves with an installed power of 169 kilowatt hours. The electricity obtained from this power plant, which is the first solar power plant project in the east-west direction on the roof in Istanbul, is used for the electricity needs of the sports complex.

‘GREEN STOP’ PRODUCING RENEWABLE ENERGY

Metro Istanbul A.Ş., carried out by İBB as part of the “Green Stop” project. Metris Stop Solar Power Plant started its operations in 2017 and has the first application feature realized within the scope of this project. With the Küçükçekmece Tracker Solar Energy Plant, which started operating in the same year, it is aimed to create a social awareness in terms of both electricity generation and renewable energy.

In the last 1 year, approximately 2 million 500 thousand kilowatt hours of energy was produced with the 5 energy production facilities that started to operate, contributing 1 million 200 thousand TL to the national economy. This production amount also corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 1,500 households.

MORE ENERGY NEEDS OF 650 THOUSAND HOUSES CAN BE MEETED WITH 6 NEW PROJECTS

The 6 renewable power plant projects that İstanbul Enerji AŞ plans to put into service are as follows; Solar Power Plant to 7 Promotion Centers of İSKİ, Wind Power Plant to Terkos Promotion Station, Kiptaş Bayrampaşa Houses Rooftop Solar Power Plant, Seymen Landfill Gas Power Plant, Pendik Natural Gas Pressure Drop Station Power Generation Plant and Melen Hydroelectric Power Plant. When these projects are completed, energy will be produced that will meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 650 thousand households.
